Praça do Comércio Hostel

Client: Private

Site: Coimbra , Portugal

Architecture: Guilherme Murta

Size: 240 sqm

Year: 2015

The intervention strategy is based on maximizing the property's income potential while still prioritizing the creation of shared spaces and differentiation factors that distinguish this housing offer within its market.

It takes a functionalist approach, providing a pragmatic solution to a practical problem. Thus, in the recessed area of the building, we strategically located the circulation areas and designed the bathrooms. This allows us to position the rooms along the main façades, ensuring optimal ventilation and light conditions while complying with rehabilitation regulations for historical centers.

The project is still a work in progress, as we are currently consulting with the authorities responsible for approving interventions in the city’s historical center. At this stage, we are developing the structural design to find the most intelligent way to integrate the historical construction with new, innovative building systems.
